Yes indeed we do. We have our Explore package that consists of a 55 marker, male-specific blood test, DEXA scan (a dual-x ray that shows body fat and lean body mass) and a metabolic test that can show total calorie needs, as well as what proportion of fat to carbohydrate you are ‘burning’ at rest, powerful for understanding your health risks and transforming your body.
The Explore package can be purchased standalone or comes as standard with our Executive Programme.
A DEXA scan is a type of dual x-ray that assesses bone density and body composition, providing insights into bone density, fat and muscle mass, as well as their distribution. DEXA scans are considered a gold standard method for assessing body composition as well as screening for the presence of bone density diseases such as osteoporosis. The type of DEXA that we offer at Miller Health is used for assessing body composition only, not screening for bone density diseases.
A DEXA scan is a type of X-ray imaging test used to measure bone mineral density (BMD). During the scan, radiation (X-rays) pass over the area of the body being examined. Some of the radiation is taken in by the bone and soft tissue and some travels through your body.
The DEXA scanner works out how much radiation is being passed through your bones, muscles, and other tissues. Is used to help detect and manage bone mineral loss conditions, such as osteoporosis, which is their principal purpose in hospitals.
Once we have established the amount of calcium in the bones, we can then calculate your BMD score. The higher the score, the denser the bones are. If you deliver a low score, then you may require supplements to increase your bone health and lower the risk of fractures/injuries.
The gold standard in body composition
At Miller and Everton, our DEXA scanner is equipped with advanced body composition software called CoreScan. This can provide an accurate indication of total fat in the trunk region, referred to as visceral (organ) fat.
This is an important diagnostic marker of health. When fat accumulates here, we know this can be a risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Fast, accurate and non-invasive
DEXA has a far lower radiation exposure than a CT scan or even a standard x-ray. It is considered safe to use for general screening, unlike CT scans.
Unlike an MRI scan where you must lay very still in an enclosed space, a DEXA scan is an open bed scanner with the ‘arm’ just passing from your head to your feet.
A DEXA scan private cost can range massively depending on where you go and your requirements.
We have included the DEXA scan as a vital testing service within our Executive Programme Package and Engage Package.
Yes, DEXA scans use low-dose radiation and are considered safe for most individuals. Before your DEXA scan you will complete a very short questionnaire, which is assessed by a rheumatologist who will assess your suitability for undergoing DEXA. Some DEXA scanning services do not use a rheumatologist and we recommend men be wary of these locations.
The mirror and tape measure are not enough. By understanding your body composition, you can tailor your training and nutrition plans far more effectively. Our experts will be able to objectively assess how much fat loss and muscle mass gain you should aim for based on the results to achieve your goals precisely and without guesswork.
It's recommended to avoid heavy meals and exercise before the scan for accurate results but otherwise, there is no preparation needed. The DEXA scan is a minimally invasive procedure and there is no need to change your clothes or wear a gown. After an assessment of your height and weight by the radiographer, you simply lie on the scanner bed and the DEXA scan will take an x-ray image of your body composition.
A metabolic test, also known as indirect calorimetry, measures your body's energy expenditure (resting metabolic rate) often expressed colloquially as ‘calories’. Many of our clients are confused as to how many calories (as food and drink) they should be consuming per day to meet their health, fitness and performance goals and relying on inaccurate, online ‘calculators’ that predict their calorie needs. The metabolic test is the most accurate method available for measuring metabolism and is used in clinical environments, such as intensive care units. With these results from the test, all the guesswork is taken out of the equation for planning your nutrition. The metabolic test can also be used to tailor and plan the type of diet that should be followed given the proportion of your calories being used as fat or carbohydrate. The metabolic test is highly repeatable and clients can remeasure to see how their metabolism is responding to their training and nutrition program.
Assessing the metabolism is perfect for men looking to optimise their body composition in a scientific and precise way, taking all the guesswork out of planning nutrition. Also, assessing the metabolism is a vital component of securing long-term health. Without a healthy metabolism, in the short term, energy levels will be poor and fluctuating and, in the long term, may lead to conditions like pre-diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
We use clinically accurate methods to assess your metabolism, ensuring personalised and precise results. The metabolic test is very simple and comfortable to perform. After fasting the day before the test (a minimum of 12 hours with no food), you will wear a heart rate monitor around your chest and then lie down on your back and breathe into the specialist metabolic cart for 10 minutes using a face mask to measure the carbon dioxide you breathe out and oxygen breathed in. The data is processed by our laboratory partners and a full report provide as part of the Explore package.
By understanding your metabolism and using blood work as part of the Explore package, we can provide dietary recommendations to help manage these conditions in the most precise and effective method possible. Armed with the data from the metabolic test and your adherence to our advice we’ll be able to strategically plan your nutrition to manage and put into remission these diseases.
Our advanced blood test in London analyses 55 markers to provide a detailed overview of your health status. We have selected these markers as the most important for the executive, performance-orientated man who needs to understand his health in a snapshot and fundamentally be able to take action and improve them strategically. The comprehensive blood test includes markers that cover your complete blood count, biochemistry, kidney function, liver function, bone screen, lipids, hormones (including testosterone and free testosterone), thyroid function, prostate health, immunology and vitamins.
Yes, as standard, our team of nurses and phlebotomy partners will come to your home or office to take the blood samples for your test. Our team brings all the test kits with them and will process all samples; no need to wait for a kit in the post and arrange collection.
At Miller Health, we believe that our men should always be provided with a full explanation of their blood results and what the implications are for their health, in layman’s terms. Our experts will guide you through your results, explaining each marker and its implications for your health and make any onward referrals to a specialist with your consent if necessary.
We recommend that all men should be undergoing testing twice annually or as recommended based on your health goals.
We utilise the data from the resting metabolic test to plan your diet extremely accurately in terms of calories and macronutrient (Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats) profiling.
It takes all the guesswork out of how much you need – the device doesn’t lie! The other data points are also useful to consider in terms of cardiovascular training, workstation ergonomics, stretching exercises, and more.
Accurate, repeatable, and non-invasive
The resting metabolic test is extremely fast and accurate. During the test, you must lie down and breathe for 10 minutes and our laboratory partner, PNOE provide the analysis.
Biochemical testing (sometimes referred to as ‘blood tests’) is a way of assessing your health from the inside out.
Most men who engage with us have had a blood test or have donated blood at some point in their past. Blood testing is a fundamental part of clinical diagnosis. It can show chronic or acute illness, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and much more.
We use an external lab partner who sends a private nurse to your home to collect a fasted blood sample from your vein.
It is important we collect from your vein, as some markers do not show up using other methods such as finger prick blood testing. The nurse will then take the kit and send it to the laboratory for testing, with results typically available in 48 hours.
At Miller and Everton, we use the biochemical tests in conjunction with our other tests to plan changes to your diet such as nutrient deficiencies.
We may also change your training in response to blood markers (such as inflammatory markers being too high). Most importantly, it can prompt us to make a referral for you to check for other illnesses or investigate a current problem.
Our men are healthy from the inside out
Biochemical tests are a vital component of any lifestyle and physique transformation to ensure a comprehensive approach to health, performance, and longevity.
